Final Film Poster (marketing campaign)

FINAL FILM POSTER

This is the final poster to promote our film opening. This is a type of marketing campaign which we decided on to promote our film in the beginning. It has all of the key factors except for the rating certification however that is explained elsewhere about what the BBFC certificate is of this film. The credits are shown at the bottom of the film poster along with the main title being clear to the audience. The image is also key to the film opening and the title as they both relate with each other. The two actors are standing on the track which also implies what the film is about. The last factor that is also on this film poster is the two characters names which are the main people within the film. 

Representation

Our film 'on track' it contains different representations, all of which relate mainly to class and age. our main focus in the film are two young girls who are both aspiring athletes. both of the athletes have different personalities that are shown later through the film but in the opening  both characters are shown as hard working but have different classes, as shown through the types of shots taken and setting of the films. one character, Sophie is wearing old trainers and old muddy cloths. this is to portray sophist character as then that is less fortunate but has still got talent. our location for Sophie is seen as a rough area and quite out back compared to the other characters shots. her training scenes are not using any type of equipment or any fancy sets just the out door environment.

The other main character is a girl who shares the same hobby but with less talent and more training as she may seem to be the "cocky" one she has got well presented trainers and good use of equipment. This girl is dressed as if she is the next olympian as she will be wearing the full kit and will show confidence towards the other girl who is her competition. the reason why we decided to portray the character like this is that it will show emotion towards the other girl and it ill also bring out two sides of the audience depending on what girl they route on as it may be shown as the poor girl loses but has the most passion and bring out the emotion in the film or he wins and the rich girl is nicer by the end. it is up to the audience to take in all of the representations strategies that we have used to get the characters and the film across.

Institution

For our film we have decided to make it under an independent institution. We produced, edited and used the equipment required from a very low budget. For the making of the film we chose a specific target audience that will not be able to make it to mainstream cinema's. the institutions that are shown in the first part of the opening scene are, film four an independent company that suits our film and Towles productions this is my own production and is the mainline for this film.

Website Inspiration

With our film being mainly inspired by fast girls, we thought to immediately look at the fast girls website for some ideas whilst creating ours. We liked to idea of having an image of the film as the main background image with the film opening over the top. We also added a gallery page which these pictures were used in order to choose our film poster.

This is Travis' institution logo that as a group, we decided on using at the beginning of the film opening.

These two videos are two animations representing Sophie and Renae's production logos. We had a look at all three of our institution logos and we decided that Travis' was the best logo to use for our film opening. Although Renae's is of a door opening and this can be related to the girls opening new doors such as different competitions, we compared all of the logos and believed that TOWLES PRODUCTIONS logo looked more professional, especially because it had audio over the top like modern institution logos.

These images show how we are helping each other with our film openings. It shows how we peer assess each others films with our teacher too help with what we could make better and improve. 

Codes and Conventions

Main icons used within the film opening:

Setting:

• Our settings are in a few different locations throughout. Our settings are all bright and positive too try and portray a happy image throughout. However the settings for Sophie and Renae's characters are slightly different. For example the setting that Sophie is in when running with her coach is misty and portrays a cold image. This is too show the comparison between the two characters. Another setting that shows Renae's character is in a swimming pool which also shows that Renae doesn't undertake advanced training techniques.

Themes:

• The themes shown throughout our film is the poor and rich between the characters.
• Also the main theme of this film is sport.
• Another theme could also be bullying. This isn't shown clearly throughout the film but the foundation of our ideas consist of bullying. 

Characters:

• Renae is known as Scarlett and her name is shown within the gym scene.
• Sophie is known as Ruth however her name is not shown in the film too show to the audience that the film is supposed too neglect that character. 

These characters are in separate scenes throughout as they aren't supposed to know each other. When they are in the same scene together they destroy the happiness image that is seen through the film.

Teacher Feedback

Today, we had our teacher sit down and look over how far we have got with the film opening. All the titles have been written up, most of the editing (cuts) have been completed and a few effects have been placed on some of the clips.

Our Teacher feedback:

1. 00:02:16- At this time the cut look insufficient. The lighting goes from yellow to green and the cut seems unnecessary. The cut doesn't need to be there as it isn't cutting out any time. 
2. We shouldn't  have our title towards the beginning of a film. Ours is in an irregular place. 
3. The titles need to be sorted out as the fonts are different and the sizes are irregular. It looks messy and all the shots don't relate. 
4. On the shot where the title 'production designer' comes up, the lighting is too dark compared to the rest of the shots in the scene. 
5. The title which states 'director' needs to be sorted out as there is a capital in the middle of the word.
6. Add more diegetic sound. 

We have taken this feedback on board and have decided too alter a few things within our film opening to make it more efficient and try to achieve the grade which we desire. For the diegetic sound, we are inserting the rest of the sound that has been deleted from the clips. In addition we came up with an idea that we do a voice over at the beginning and copy a script from an old race to try and piece together all of the different events within the opening. Our teacher also suggested that we could add a voice over of a variety of voices that are negative when Sophie appears. She thought this would make the viewers understand more of what is going on however we did not seem to understand this idea or think it would make the film seem more logical. 

BBFC Certificate

We have decided for our film that our BBFC certificate will be rating 12. We thought this rating would be suitable as there is minimal content in this opening that will disturb viewers.


This BBFC certificate makes it a 12 rating for several reasons.

1. Discriminatory language and behaviours not endorsed by the work as a whole.
2. Drugs are not involved within the instructional detail. 
3. There is no promotion of potential dangerous behaviour which children are likely to copy. Also there is no glamorisation of realistic or easily accessible weapons such as knives. 
4.  There is moderate language and there is no strong language involved. 
5. There is no nudity or sexual content. 
6. There is also no violence used or emphasis on injuries or blood. Neither is their any gory moments that need to be justified by the context. 
7. There is no moderate physical and psychological threat and horror sequences. 

Film Inspiration

We have one main film that inspired us the most to create 'On Track' and that is the film fast girls. Fast Girls is an athletics based film with a group on girls competing in the olympics. They are apart of Team GB and the film is series of training up until competition days. There are two main girls within the film who have serious competition against each other and they do the same event within the olympics, causing the competitiveness between them, and the fact that they come from opposite backgrounds.

Titles for On Track

As our film is inspired by the sports film, Fast Girls, we thought to sit down and look over the opening titles within this film. We decided to note down all the different titles in the consecutive order that they presented them in the film and try to include all of these in the same order in our film opening. We wanted to use all of these titles to show our understanding of the importance of titles and the status in which order that they are represented. We also timed each title in which they appear on the screen, and how long for, and we counted a total of approximately 3/4 seconds per title.

First Draft Assessment

This is our groups first draft of On Track.

Things that went well.

• The main thing that went well with this film opening is the quality of the shots. We managed to get a variety of different shots in every scene. As a result of this it allows to show different points of view. 
• Another aspect that went well within the film opening is the different uses of music and diegetic sound.

Things that could be improved.

• As a result of receiving a lot of feedback from the peer assessment task, we got told a few times that the beginning scene of the alarm clock going off opens the film to look like it is a horror film. Apparently it gives the idea to the audience that the title On Track is a play on words and it actually goes 'off track' but that isn't the message that we are trying to portray throughout the film opening. 
• Another thing that could be improved to make this first draft better would be to add a music type that corresponds with the mood and feel of the opening. With the song saying 'I can't stop thinking about you' it doesn't feel appropriate with what is going on within the opening. As the characters are supposed to be opposites and wanting nothing to do with each other (which also isn't portrayed very well) the music doesn't show that and the music should help with story telling of the opening. 
• Linking with not showing the characters very well, I don't do an efficient job on looking as a complete opposite in comparison to Renae. I was ideally supposed to look poor compared to Renae, however the costumes do not correspond with the characters personality or their background. 

Other's feedback.

• The shots were good.

Were there any aspects of the sequence which you felt were confusing/distracting, etc? Be sure to explain your answers.

• The titles and what was going on was confusing. 
• The light is different as it goes from dark to light.
• Unsure about plot one.
• Show locations were not vary varied.
• No real storyline.
• Minimal Dialogue.
• Not sure what the storyline is. 
• Music was a bit too loud when walking out the door.
• A bit confusing as to why it keeps saying On Track and why it jumps character.

• Maybe a voice over to make the story clearer.
• The titles need to be finalised.
• Different fonts for titles, need to use just one.

What elements of this sequence did you feel were successful? Give at least 2 elements. and explain why they were successful.

• My favourite aspect of this film opening is that it feels like an opening of a film and not the middle of a film. The events and the way that they have been placed in the order that they have shows how they are trying to show their audience the story of which they are trying to approach throughout. 
• In addition, the different uses of lights and backgrounds shows how in their film opening it is different days and different events are occurring. This is key for a film opening as well so it it portrayed throughout as a film opening. 
• Also there is a good variety of cameras which shows exploration. With the group using both a normal camera and a GoPro shows that their ideas vary in the way that they wish to show their shots. Their shots work well with their camera decisions and the way that they are trying to show the different characters. 

Were there any aspects of the sequence which you felt were confusing/distracting/missing, etc? Be sure to explain your answers. 

• I think that the sequence towards the end was confusing as it doesn't look entirely finished. I don't understand the message that it is trying to portray or wether it is trying to show a story or not. 
• With the props, I believe that you should make it look more realistic by lighting a cigarette and make use of the surroundings and props. By lighting the cigarette I think it would make it look more pressurised on the drug deliverer as the drug dealer acts as though he is chilled and doesn't care about the way he is around others. 
• I think a good idea could be that the props could be used in a way to represent different titles. For example when Antonio moves the bottle around to show the camera, I think it would look different to other peoples openings and apply a title on there. 

List 2 things which you feel you would have improved this sequence and explain your opinion. 

• I believe the main focus of improvement for this film opening is to apply a main title. I think there should be a main title involved within this opening because a title in front of a film will show (or give an idea to the audience) what the film will be about or based on.
• Another thing I think this group should focus on too improve their work is too neaten up the shots. For example when the scene in the woods happen both the actors look as though they are on the same side of the camera at one point which could confuse the audience for the whole scene, putting them off for the rest of the film opening.

Final film poster ideas

This is our first idea for the film poster for our marketing campaign. This poster has all the information on that people would want/need to know before watching the film. With the credits incorporated with the film poster it shows who was involved within the making of the film. I also inserted a four star rating too show the audience the first 'opinions' of the film. This promotes the film a bit more and shows the target audience that the film is as good as it is made out to be and gives a variety of opinion.









This is our second idea for the film poster. Comparing this one to the poster above it shows the difference of the effect portrayed through the amount of text and no text. With this poster being simplistic it allows the audience to concentrate more on the images which represents what will happen within the film. It also shows focus on the title corresponding with the images. With both of the images involving a track and the title expressing 'on track' it shows how the film involves running on the track. However, the first thought of the title would be that the film is to do with the two girls running on the track, although the moral message behind it is that the two girls hope to be on the right path throughout the whole of their sporting career.
